Information Technology

Information Technology (IT) is a broad computing term that refers to anything that delivers data or facilitates the exchange of knowledge by means of any multimedia sharing device.

Over the course of just a few decades, corporate information technology departments have gone from using storage tapes to serve as backups for each computer operator to creating and managing unified networks of employee workstations that store information in a server farm, generally somewhere away from the central business site. A company’s IT strategy is essential to automating business processes, supplying information, connecting with customers and sharpening efficiencies.

Today’s IT professionals may be responsible for designing and maintaining complex information databases and computer networks, along with day-to-day data management and system administration.
