Stream Sponsors Hackathon in Goodyear, AZ

Stream Data Centers was a proud sponsor of the “May the 4^th Be With You” Hackathon, hosted by the City of Goodyear earlier this month. The event was the second hackathon success for Girls in Technology Phoenix (GIT) and the first-ever business and technology hackathon in the West Valley.  Stream wants to congratulate the organizers and participants of the hackathon for an amazing event and recognize the Goodyear community for the outstanding group of skilled and talented individuals that it attracted to this event.

Over the course of three days, more than 50 participants, mentors, volunteers and speakers were engaged in networking and competitive, collaborative innovation. Six teams of girls, boys, women and men developed nine original projects ranging from greeting card, food sharing and teen support apps to the creating and marketing of a line of fashionable adaptive clothing. Thanks to the support of sponsors such as Stream, the Girls in Technology Phoenix organization received funds to back its scholarship and grant program in support of business startups. Additionally, a wide range of prizes were awarded to the winners.

The winning innovation, “Virtual Assistant,” proposed an app to help small businesses with limited resources improve their social media presence. Second place went to Clothing Innovations, an adaptive clothing for elderly and disabled, and third place went to Angel Connect, an 24/7 app to offer connections for troubled teens.

This month’s hackathon is one of many recent investments Stream has made in support of the Goodyear community. Earlier this year, Stream announced a new 157-acre data center campus in Goodyear, on which it will establish its first hyper-scale data center in the Greater Phoenix region. The facility will be fully operational for customers in the first quarter of 2020.  The acquisition marks the company’s first large-scale entrance into the Phoenix market and will enable Stream to support the needs of the area’s growing number of cloud providers and users.
