Stream Data Centers Collaborates with GRESB and Infrastructure Masons on New Sustainability Assessment

MEDIA ALERT

The Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) and iMasons partner to create the world’s first global sustainability assessment and benchmark tailored for data center investments and informed by data center developers.

As data centers become a critical part of real estate and infrastructure portfolios, their sustainability goals — such as optimizing energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprints — demand focused attention and clear reporting. To assist, a new sustainability assessment, announced at the Datacloud Global Congress, offers investors and developers the metrics and insights they need to support informed decisions in this rapidly growing asset class.

GRESB and iMasons have convened a Data Centers Working Group of over 20 representatives from the automation, energy management, technology and asset management sectors, including Stream’s Senior Director of Sustainability, Amanda Abell.

Representing collaboration across data centers, investors and industry consultants, the working group has identified the material indicators most relevant to investors and operators. The pilot sustainability assessment will launch in Q3 2025, with a full market-wide sustainability assessment expected in 2026. This initiative builds on participants’ existing expertise and evolving sustainability programs, and leverages GRESB’s platform, which already tracks sustainability metrics for 842 data center assets with a combined gross asset value (GAV) of $115 billion.

This new sustainability assessment aims to provide actionable insights that improve performance, mitigate risks and drive long-term value for data center investments, focusing on key sustainability priorities, including:

  • Energy and water efficiency to address rising consumption trends
  • Worker health and safety within data center operations
  • Performance metrics that align with both investor and operator expectations

Remaining tightly aligned with industry best practices and committed to driving a deeply embedded culture of sustainability, Abell continues to lead Stream’s environmental and governance roadmap, which includes:

  • Transparent reporting
  • Creating and tracking measurable improvements across emissions and other key sustainable indicators
  • Championing efficient and secure building and operational practices
  • Cultivating inclusion and innovation across Stream’s organization
